Court diagram of the Rock-Paper-Scissors Chase basketball drill: start positions and movement
Basket at the top. Orange circles: offense, X: defense, wavy line: dribble, dashed line: pass.

Setup

Pair the group up with partners facing each other across the centre line. No ball needed.

How it runs

  1. Each pair plays rock, paper, scissors.
  2. The loser immediately turns and runs, trying to cross the free throw line before being tagged.
  3. The winner chases and tries to tag before that line.
  4. Reset and play again, alternating which direction they escape towards.

Coaching point

The value is in the hip turn and crossover step out of a standing start, so watch the first move, not the race.
