Setup

A lone defender starts in the lane. Pairs of attackers come from half court one pair at a time, passing as they advance.

How it runs

  1. The pair attack with the ball in the middle third, wide spacing, and speed.
  2. The defender protects the rim first, then fakes hard at the dribbler to make him think the ball will be taken.
  3. The moment the dribbler picks up the ball, the defender drops toward the receiver to take away the lay-up pass.
  4. Play until a shot, turnover or stop; the defender stays in for three pairs, then rotates out.

Coaching point

Basket first: never give up the lay-up to guard the ball.
