Setup

Three offense against three defenders in the backcourt. The ball handler's defender is the container; the nearest defender within about 20 feet is the trapper.

How it runs

  1. The container overplays and channels the dribbler toward the trapper.
  2. The trapper runs hard at the dribbling shoulder and calls either 'Jump' or 'Trap'.
  3. On 'Jump', the trapper takes the dribbler and the container rotates down the line of the dribble to find the open man.
  4. On 'Trap', both defenders double-team, feet close together, arms waving, forcing a lob or bounce pass.
  5. The third defender reads the call and plays the passing lane to steal the pass out.

Coaching point

The trapper decides; the container obeys the call.
