Setup

5-on-5 half court. Whenever the offense shoots and the defense secures the ball, the player who shot must touch the baseline before getting back, creating 5-on-4 the other way.

How it runs

  1. Offense runs half-court action and shoots.
  2. On a defensive rebound, the new offense outlets and pushes hard to exploit the missing defender.
  3. The shooter touches the baseline under his own rim, then sprints back to join the defense.
  4. The four defenders scramble: stop the ball, protect the rim, and rotate until the shooter arrives.
  5. Play the break live; the team that scores keeps the ball for a half-court possession.

Coaching point

The break team must find the unguarded player fast; after about 5 seconds the numbers even out.
