Court diagram of the Chase-Down Outlet Layups basketball drill: start positions and movement
Basket at the top. Orange circles: offense, X: defense, wavy line: dribble, dashed line: pass.

Setup

Two lines: one under the basket with a ball each, one in the near corner.

How it runs

  1. The first player throws the ball off the backboard and rebounds it.
  2. The corner player steps out toward the sideline with his back to it so he can see the whole floor, and calls for the outlet.
  3. The rebounder outlets, then chases hard, trying to bother the layup at the far end.
  4. The receiver speed dribbles the length of the court and finishes.
  5. At the far end the pair swap jobs and come back down the other side.

Coaching point

Push the ball well out in front on the speed dribble and run onto it.
