Setup

Three defenders wait inside the far three-point arc. Four attackers start on the near baseline: three in the lanes as the first wave, one post a few steps behind as the trailer.

How it runs

  1. Coach passes to any first-wave player; the three sprint wide lanes and attack 3-on-3 against the waiting defenders.
  2. The trailer holds back until the ball crosses half court, then sprints into the scoring area as the fourth attacker.
  3. As the trailer arrives, he shouts 'Trailer left' or 'Trailer right' so the ball handler knows where he will appear.
  4. The ball handler decides: finish with the first wave, reverse to the trailer, or hit the trailer cutting to the rim.
  5. Play to a score or defensive rebound, then the three defenders plus one new player become the next attacking group.

Coaching point

The first wave must keep width so the trailer has a lane to cut into.
