Court diagram of the Attack the Switch: Isolate the Big, 2-on-2 basketball drill: start positions and movement
Basket at the top. Orange circles: offense, X: defense, wavy line: dribble, dashed line: pass.

Setup

2-on-2 with a guard and a big on offense. The defense must switch every ball screen.

How it runs

  1. Big sets a ball screen; the defenders switch.
  2. The screener rolls or seals into the post to clear space, not to demand the ball.
  3. The guard dribbles back out beyond the arc, sizes up the bigger defender and attacks him one-on-one for a layup.
  4. If help comes, he feeds the sealed big once the big has position on the block.
  5. Play live; rotate positions and roles.

Coaching point

Be patient against a switch; do not rush a contested jumper.
