Setup
Passer on the wing, cutter at the top, screener at the elbow. Defenders on cutter and screener.
How it runs
- As the ball is swung or dribbled away, the screener sprints up and sets a flare screen on the cutter's defender.
- If the defender is one pass away, the cutter first steps him toward the free-throw line, then runs off the flare to the opposite wing.
- If the defender tries to go over the top of the flare, the cutter turns it down and cuts to the rim.
- After the screen, the screener spaces to the side opposite where he came from.
- Passer hits the open player; play live.
Coaching point
The flare is set on the pass's airtime; there is no time for a slow walk-up.
