Setup

Offense: two guards at the top in the gaps of a two-man front, one wing, and one post starting on the weakside block. Defense: two top defenders and a middle defender of a 2-3.

How it runs

  1. Guards pass the ball between them to make the top defenders shift.
  2. On a pass toward the wing, the weakside post flashes into the free-throw line area behind the top defenders.
  3. The guard hits the flash; the post pivots to face the rim immediately.
  4. From the face-up the post reads: open shot, pass to the wing if the top defender sagged, or a bounce pass to a guard cutting into the gap.
  5. If the middle defender steps up, the post passes to any teammate who cuts behind him.

Coaching point

The free-throw area is a hub: from there a pass can go anywhere, so the flash must face up at once.
