Setup

Three offensive players: one at each wing and a passer at the top. One defender starts at the nail (middle of the free-throw line) and two defenders guard the wings with deliberate cushion so the wings can start a drive.

How it runs

  1. The top passer gives the ball to either wing.
  2. The wing drives toward the middle; the nail defender digs at the ball with a quick step and high hands, then retreats.
  3. Wing kicks back to the top; the nail defender closes out briefly to the top and then returns to the nail as the ball swings.
  4. Ball goes to the other wing, which drives middle and the nail defender digs again.
  5. After four digs the nail defender rotates out.

Coaching point

The dig is a show: stop the ball's middle momentum, then get back before the kick-out pass lands.
