Setup

Offense has two guards, a shooter on the weak side and one post. Defense plays four players in zone areas (two top, two bottom). The coach explains that a screen on a zone blocks the defender nearest the area, not a specific man.

How it runs

  1. Guards swing the ball toward one side to shift the zone.
  2. The post sets a back screen on the weakside back-line defender, sealing him inside.
  3. The shooter spots up in the area that defender would normally close out to.
  4. The ball is reversed quickly, including a skip if needed, to the shooter for a catch-and-shoot.
  5. If a top defender rotates down to take the shooter, the screener slips or seals into the lane for a pass.

Coaching point

Screen the man who would close out, and hold the seal until the ball arrives.
