Setup

Receiver starts on the wing, passer at the top, and a defender inside the three-point line. The defender chooses one of three actions as the pass is made.

How it runs

  1. Passer swings the ball to the wing.
  2. Defender stays far: receiver shoots on the catch.
  3. Defender closes out to one side: receiver shot-fakes if needed and drives the opposite way.
  4. Defender jumps into the passing lane before the pass: receiver cuts backdoor for a bounce pass and a layup.
  5. After a stop or basket, rotate: passer to receiver, receiver to defender, defender to passer.

Coaching point

Decide during the ball's flight rather than after the catch.
