Setup

A passer at the top, a cutter on the wing, and a defender denying the wing pass. The cutter has five seconds to get open.

How it runs

  1. Cutter reads the defender's stance and picks a cut: V-cut to the wing, L-cut from the lane up to the wing, backdoor behind a high denial, or a basket cut across the defender's face after passing.
  2. Passer delivers the pass that fits the cut: air pass for a front cut, bounce pass for a backdoor.
  3. If the cutter catches on the wing, play 1-on-1 live with two dribbles.
  4. If the cutter is not open in five seconds, the defender wins the rep.
  5. Rotate passer, cutter, defender.

Coaching point

Sell the first direction by stepping into the defender, then change speed and angle.
