Setup

Bigs line up under the rim, guards with a ball at the top and on the wing. A coach or a passive defender stands on the ball handler to give the screener a target.

How it runs

  1. The big starts with his head under the rim and sprints up the middle of the lane toward the ball.
  2. Late in his run he chooses a side and plants with his back roughly flat to the baseline for a high screen.
  3. For a wing screen coming from high, he first drops level with or below the ball, then turns out so his back faces the far corner.
  4. The guard holds the ball in the middle of the floor until the screener lands, then uses the screen and the big rolls.
  5. Rotate: screener to guard line, guard to the back of the big line.

Coaching point

Sprint into the screen so your defender trails you and cannot get to the level of the ball.
